Possible Analogue-Style Solution for Existing Customers ?

Openreach is developing an additional phone line product which does not require a broadband connection.  Full details are still to emerge.  However, it appears that the features of this new product can be summarised as follows:

1. Only for existing customers with an analogue PSTN line AND who face "challenges" in migrating to Internet Protocol (IP) by 2025 (customers deemed "vulnerable" or lines serving critical national infrastructure)

3  It will provide voice service only, and not broadband.

4. It will replicate as far as possible an existing PSTN line.  Equipment to interface with the digital network will be located at the exchange.  As with existing analogue lines, no power supply will be required at the customer's premises to operate a telephone.

5. This is a transitional solution.  It may be available until about 2030.  The aim remains to switch all customers eventually to IP.
