Introduction

British Telecommunications (BT) are withdrawing the existing Public Switched Telecommunications Network (PSTN) maintained by their subsidiary Openreach.   In future all telephone service will be provided over a customer's broadband connection using Voice Over Internet Protocol (VoIP).   Customers of other telecommunications providers who use the BT Openreach network will also be affected by this change.  BT is marketing its VoIP product under the brand name Digital Voice.

In the absence of data published by BT, the information provided on these pages may be helpful if you need to configure existing telephone equipment to work with Digital Voice, or if you are considering arrangements for back-up power to ensure continuity of service during a power cut.

Please post a comment if you have any useful information that you consider should be added.

General information about this change can be found at BT's website.
